Lighthouse in state park at end of Leelanau Peninsula: A really long day driving along West Bay stopping (off your beaten path again but worth it) at Shady Lane & Ciccone wineries, possibly Mawby (wonderful sparkling) and driving through Suttons Bay, Omena, and Northport. Wineries are just now figuring out new regulations so check before visiting. Great views from many wineries-especially Mari, Chateau Grand Traverse, Hawthorn, Chateau Chantal and I think 2 Lads.

Hidden gem: Green House Cafe on Front St. Wonderful whitefish! Fustini's oils on tables! If doing winery tour on Old Mission Peninsula, Boathouse $$$$ has amazing seafood and everything else. Seafood: Apache Trout Grill also on West GT Bay-waterfront outside dining. Lots of 2 for 1 specials now at Harringtons. Steaks: Harringtons on west side 22 on West Bay-can eat out on porch w/ water view across busy traffic though. Tricky to find the first time, ask for help at hotel) MX food: Mama Lu's on Front and your hole in the wall gem, Spanglish in The Village at Grand Traverse Commons (old state hospital complex redone into shops, excellent restaurants and condos off Division St. No room fridges though and lots of Victorian rose pattered wallpaper for the guys to "enjoy". We've stayed there multiple times in the past and friends liked it, too. Answer: We always recommend the Bayshore Hotel because it has a great beach and is easily walkable to the restaurant/shopping area on Front St.
